About Me
I live and work between Birmingham, UK and a picturesque village in central Istria, Croatia. I first discovered clay when I enrolled in an evening class over 25 years ago, and fell in love with it as soon as I experienced the tactility of clay and its immediate response to my hands. I later obtained a City and Guilds certificate in Design and Craft in the context of ceramics.
I find my inspiration for both forms and surfaces in nature and life forms. The shapes and forms of seedpods, shells and underwater creatures have influenced the shapes of the vessel. Meanwhile, it’s the rhythm of the landscape, such as the patterns created by wind blowing across the sand or the rhythmic gradation of the beach from sand to gravel arranged in carefully sorted bands by the tide, that influences the texture, colour and surface quality of my work.
All pieces are hand built from coils using stoneware clay, and the surfaces are textured to create different levels and depths. These are enhanced by the subsequent use of oxides and dry glaze after the bisque firing. The glaze is applied in several layers to produce a range of colours, from blue and green to more earthy hues, giving the vessels an organic and aged appearance.
I am a Member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) and Associate Member of Craft Potters Association (CPA). I have been exhibiting and selling my work in the RBSA gallery in Birmingham since 2013 where I have received the commendations and rewards for my work, the John Noott Galleries in Broadway and the Lux Gallery in Birmingham. My work is available in private collections across Europe, USA and Brazil.
